Please try again later. Another great text book on the oower drive and control haven’t read the power electronics and expert systems chapters. Very fluent and easy to follow. Every thing is covered. Block diagrams and figures are self explanatory. Get it, read it and feel the thrill. I used this book for my final project control the speed and position of a PMSM. It helped me mostly to add some theoretical meat to my writing and explain the control loops in Simulink. In practice there is nothing like the Application Notes from Microchip, TI or another microcontroller manufacturer This book is definitely not for someone who never had an undergraduate class in Power Electronics.
I also own the Power Electronics book by Ned Mohan – that one is useless as well don’t buy it. Someday when you are doing your Ph. D powrr Power Electronics or Power Engineering then maybe you can use this book as reference.
I hear that the Author is a big shot in the field but Electronicz am afraid he is incapable of teaching fundamental concepts in Power Electronics. It happens very often. Frequently, Universities electronice people who cannot teach a simple diode circuit but they will get the job because they can bring in the research dollars.
Their forte is research not teaching. Bose is in that category. I would wager a bet that most of the reviewers here are his students. One person found this helpful. The book attracted my interest bima, its unique moderb of contents in power electronics, and modern concepts of motor start and speed controls.
It covers various principles and applications of AC-DC-AC conversion and AC-AC conversion possible to use for the motor controls with adequate mathematical, graphical and text contents, e. The AC-AC conversion is evolving and has a good chance for the wider application in the future since its bimap is lighter with potentially fewer overall switching devices; therefore, it is attractive to ship, aircraft, etc.
This Author’s vision certainly deserves the highest rating for his creation. The areas that might have been included are, for example: Harmonic filters and their principles and applications in the energy conversion. For example, the hybrid filters, and various topologies of passive, active and hybrid filters as applied to energy converters or motor drives.
These are boe heavily focused on by the Power Quality specialists. It is a great honor for me to review ,odern. Because I had studied and taught with Dr. Actually I waited his new book so long time after “Power electronics and AC drives bima, which was the best book as a text book of power electronics.
In this new book, all the subjects are reinforced, ;ower and added. It is not second edition. It is really new book. All of his experiences were modefn into this book. He wrote and edited lots of books about power electronics. Those books were best seller in power electronics area. Thus I think this new book will be another best seller. It covers all the valuable subjects that are risen in the power electronics area.
In this section:
It deals with all the kind of converters that are in practical use from basic to professional level. Also it deals with induction and synchronous drives with control and estimation, which includes vector control, sensorless control and describes almost all the subject risen in that fields. Especially, the author emphasizes AI techniques. He published many papers about that field. Thus, his descriptions are very useful to study and to follow. Fuzzy and neural parts are very practical and applicable.
Also, the author introduces many simulink programs that can be used.
Thus this book would be very useful for students and researchers to find what was going on, what is going on and what will be going on in power electronic fields.
As his formal book, I think this book would be enough to be a good text book of power electronics. Cong Wang from China Univ. Bose, author of the book, is well-known in the world in the field of power electronics, and it is an honor to review his book.
The book is a masterpiece contribution in power electronics and drives area. I was teaching his previous book “Power Electronics and AC Drives” for more than 10 years in my undergraduate and graduate classes. In our University published the Chinese Version of his another book “Power Electronics and Variable frequency Drives”I was one of the translators.
I was delighted to see this updated, expanded and technologically enhanced book. It will now easily replace his previous book.
It is difficult to imagine that anybody else other than Prof. Bose can write such an authoritative book. The writing style is superb, and difficult things have been expressed in clear language. The book covers almost everything in power electronics and motor drives. It starts with power semiconductor devices, and then covers different classes of converters.
The induction and synchronous motor drives with control and estimation have been discussed in detail. Finally, the special feature of the book is coverage on artificial intelligence applications in power electronics which have not been treated in any other book on power electronics. There is a separate Problems Manual of the book.
I should recommend the book in undergraduate Senior and graduate courses in all universities.
