EC Foundations for Econometrics. This is an introductory module regarding statistics for economic analysis. This is followed by probability, leading to random variables and various random distributions.
Lastly, the module ends with sampling distributions, point and interval estimation and hypothesis testing. The workload is not heavy at all. The problem sets are quite easy to do as they just comprise of basic questions and the lecturer would have already run through several examples during the lecture. Personally, the problem sets got harder towards the end of the module as the concepts got harder to grasp so more time had to be spent trying to finish the problem set. Thoughts about the tutor: Readings would just be the lecture notes that should be read before going to lecture.
In fact, if you do get her as your lecturer, do bring along some foolscap paper as you will need to copy down her examples and solutions as she likes to write her examples and selected concepts on paper.
The exams that she sets are very easy.
In fact, it is comparable to the questions on the problem set which as previously mentioned are mostly basic questions. This is ec203 introductory module about statistics used in economics analysis. It covers the different frequency distributions PMF, PDF, CDFmeasures of their mean and variance, probability, random distributions, sampling distributions, estimation and hypothesis testing.
Basically just the weekly problem sets that the tutor would go through during tutorial, which is relatively easy, only testing basic understanding of the topics covered in lectures.
ec – Plain Janes
He is ok as a tutor as he writes the main takeaway points for each lecture on the board during tutorials and ensures that every student has had at least presented once. However, one unique thing about him is that he sighs a lot so much that sometimes I also feel like sighing with him LOLprobably due to the tutorial being an early class at 9am. No reading required notse than looking over weekly lecture slides if there is before lectures.
You are interested in statistics not necessarily economics as economics application is not mentioned in the moduleor compulsory if you are an note major. We decided to do some reviews for the mods we took. Hopefully, they are of help to those of you searching for more info on a certain mod.
